Cafe Salsa has undergone a welcome rebirth with the new owners busily restoring the reputation of this near-seafront location, where you can sit outside under the palm thatch and listen to the sea 100m away. Salsa has been described as akin to a vintage Gaggia espresso machine – beautiful in a somewhat retro way, noisy and not always reliable – but the end product is terrific. Its chrome chairs, lino tiles and laminex tables seem to be straight out of the 1960s and the cooking is a little retro, as well – simple and homely southern Italian dishes courtesy of a chef recently imported from Naples. Main-course highlights include whole baked baby dory with fennel salad and grilled king prawns wrapped in pancetta. The mobile gelati bar in the courtyard is the right place to end the meal. Open: lunch Sun, dinner Tue-Sun. Licensed.
